从目的论视角看(红楼梦)中的中医方剂的翻译论文开题报告Rationale and significance Traditional Chinese medicine is the fruit of Chinese ancient people s labor. It s necessary to present our excellent medical culture to the world. In recent years, the status of traditional Chinese medicine get promoted, and it get more and more people s attention at home or abroad. People around the word set off a trend of learning traditional Chinese medicine. Since China s reform and opening up, especially after China s entry into WTO, China has made great effort in cooperation with countries around the world. It s a great opportunity to introduce Chinese excellent culture to the world. Translation is very important to different culture s communication, so the translation of traditional Chinese medicine is very important. Hong Lou Meng is one of the greatest works in Chinese traditional literature, Cao Xueqin, the author of Hong Lou Meng, was also very skillful in medical knowledge, there were many medical knowledge in the book. More and more people have done a lot of studies on Hong Lou Meng s translation of culture, poems and so on while fewer people focus on the translation of it s medical knowledge. And among those studies on translation of medical knowledge in Hong Lou Meng, few of them was studied from the perspective of Skopos theory. Skopos theory is an approach to translation proposed in the late 1970s and early 1980s by Reiss and Hans J Vermeer. They hold that translation is a kind of action with a purpose. Hong Lou Meng ,as one of the four masterpiece of China, contains deep culture of traditional Chinese medicine. The translation of Hong Lou Meng is the bridge of communication of world and the translation of its Chinese medicine is very important. There are several English versions of Hong Lou Meng ,the most widely accepted versions are the version of Yang Xianyi and his wife A Dream of Red Mansions and David Hawkes the Story of the Stone I choose them as my study object. Because Yang is a Chinese and he had studied in Oxford. Hawkes was a British, he studied Chinese in Oxford and as a postgraduate in Beijing University and he became a professor of Chinese in Oxford. Both of them had strong English and Chinese language skills, and one is Chinese the other is British, two different cultural background. There are some difference in their translation of Hong Lou Meng. Compare these two English version to find out the different translation of traditional Chinese prescriptions from the perspective of Skopos theory. ; Literature Review The novel is not only full of profound thoughts, but also has made predominant achievements in art and is considered as an Encyclopedia of Chinese feudal society. The novel covers almost every part of Chinese traditional culture, including state system, political order, rituals and customs, domesticities, costume and household utensils, gourmet food, poetry and painting, architecture and garden, and so on. (Peng, 2012) The study of English version of Hong Lou Meng plays an important role in introducing Chinese excellent traditional culture to the world. The translation of Hong Lou Meng dated back to 19th century ,Hong Lou Meng was translated into 23 language and there were more than 60 versions in total, including 14 Japanese versions, 9 Korean versions, 9 English versions and 9 French versions.(Li, 1995) From the perspective of medical science, the medicine in Hong Lou Meng is a great treasure house. There are 290 medical knowledge in total and 50000words related to the medical knowledge,161 medical terms, 114 clinical cases,45 traditional Chinese prescription , 125 kinds of traditional Chinese medicine and 3kinds of western medicine.(Duan, 2004) So the translation of traditional Chinese medicine in Hong Lou Meng is very important. Peng has compared and analyzed the different English versions translation of 25 kinds of traditional Chinese prescription and gave his own opinion on the translation of traditional Chinese prescription. The translation of traditional Chinese medicine is still in a beginning and exploring stage, translator don t have professional knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine, without the background information of traditional Chinese medicine, they may mistranslate the traditional Chinese medicine.(Xiong, 2013) The translation of traditional Chinese prescription is very difficult because traditional Chinese prescription is very complex. There are three principles of translation of traditional Chinese prescription: brevity, informedness, back-translation.(Li, 1993) The translation of traditional Chinese prescription should base on the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine and follow the three principles and reproduce the source language meaning more faithfully(Xia, Zhang, Lin, 2011) Skopos theory is an approach to translation proposed in the late 1970s and early 1980s by Reiss and Hans J. Vermeer. Skopos theory focuses on the purpose of the translation. The purpose of the target text determines the translation methods and strategies in order to produce a functionally adequate or appropriate. And there are three rules of Skopos theory. The translation of traditional Chinese medical terms is a communication and collision of culture between China and western countries and its purpose is to make traditional Chinese medical culture successfully accepted by people of different cultural background.(Xiong, 2013)
